Why has our map been discontinued?
In short, we discovered a massive flaw in Tsuen Wan · West, which is an inaccurate scale. The map was created at a larger than real life scale, due to miscalculations in the dimensions of the base map. As a result, even a 12-metre-long rear-wheel-drive bus can clear the sharp U-turn from the outer-most bus bay of Bayview Garden Bus Terminus. This is not the case when in real life, where it is unlikely that a 12-metre bus can make the sharp turn in one go, except for a Volvo B7R.
Therefore, we are determined to redevelop the map in an accurate scale. Since all of the roads will be rebuilt from scratch, do not expect a new version until 2021.
Some may ask, why must we start again from scratch? We can still continue development on the map despite the slightly off scale, can't we? Well, starting over provides a couple of advantages. Firstly, we strive to make the map and roads as realistic as possible. By rebuilding the roads, we are going to be utilising our improved workflow and techniques that will make roads smoother and better to drive. Secondly, fixing the scale of the map unlocks more opportunities. With a correct scale, it enables us to merge our map with others in the future.
